Power Wheelchair Awarded to Disabled Belfast Woman
Belfast, ME (PRWeb) February 7, 2007 -- Deborah Paradis had just enough hope left for a prayer and a phone call. Homebound due to a debilitating illness and barely able to make ends meet, Ms. Paradis, 62, was ready to give up on life until she saw The SCOOTER Store commercial on television. She then thought that just maybe, things could get better.
Today, Ms. Paradis' prayers were answered with the donation of a power wheelchair from The SCOOTER Store as part of its "Gift of Mobility Program," which provides mobility equipment and assistance to those who cannot afford to purchase a power wheelchair or scooter. Kevin McAfee, from The SCOOTER Store's Nashua, NH retail store, worked with Dream Foundation to make the gift to Ms. Paradis. The Dream Foundation is the nation's first and largest organization that grants wishes to adults who have been physically, emotionally and financially devastated by serious illnesses.
Ms. Paradis, a long-time Belfast resident, suffers from illnesses that limit her ability to perform daily tasks and chores. For Ms. Paradis, a short walk to the mailbox had become a difficult task. Relying on the help of others for her basic needs had long taken its toll on Ms. Paradis who was in constant physical and emotional anguish. She was losing hope when she saw the commercial about scooters, and called The SCOOTER Store. Ms. Paradis didn't qualify under any insurance programs, but she became a candidate for a Gift of Mobility.
"Ms. Paradis deserves our support through one of the most difficult times of her life," said Doug Harrison, The SCOOTER Store's CEO and Founder. "Through our Gift of Mobility program, we are hoping that Ms. Paradis, and others living with physical impairments, can have their independence and freedom restored with a power wheelchair or scooter."
The SCOOTER Store, the nation's leading provider of power wheelchairs and scooters, created its Gift of Mobility program in December 2002. Since its inception, the outreach program has worked with organizations around the world to donate more than $200,000 per year in power wheelchairs and scooters and manual wheelchairs to community service organizations enabling them to provide freedom, independence and personal integrity to those with limited mobility.
