The Scooter Store Donates Power Wheelchair to New Nonprofit With Mission to Help The Disabled

Winchester, Ky. (PRWEB) August 24, 2007 -- For a long time, Lon Gordon dreamed of sharing his passion for the outdoors with others. He realized his dream by founding No Boundaries Outdoors to provide hunting, fishing, camping and archery experiences to people living with disabilities in Kentucky. To help the non-profit organization serve the physically disabled, The SCOOTER Store has donated a power wheelchair (http://www.thescooterstore.com/products/powerchairs.aspx) to the organization.

Today, Sonny McClanahan, Account Manager of The SCOOTER Store in Louisville, Ky., delivered the power wheelchair (http://www.thescooterstore.com/products/powerchairs.aspx) to No Boundaries Outdoors as part of The SCOOTER Store?s Gift of Mobility program, which donates mobility equipment to individuals and organizations.

Mr. Gordon called The SCOOTER Store after seeing one of its television ads. He explained that a power wheelchair would help his organization by allowing disabled participants to be mobile during outdoor activities.

Mr. Gordon, 37, got his passion for the outdoors from his grandfather. When his grandfather died several years ago, Mr. Gordon promised himself that he would pass on his knowledge of the outdoors. Initially, he mentored a 15-year-old boy, but when that boy was tragically diagnosed with a brain tumor and died a year later, Mr. Gordon started thinking about all the physically and mentally challenged people who were not able to enjoy the outdoors. As Mr. Gordon puts it: ?Part of my duty as an outdoorsman is to share my experiences with those who are not able to do it on their own.? Thus, he began No Boundaries Outdoors.

Over the last several months, Mr. Gordon has worked tirelessly with five other board members to secure sponsors and donations, recruit and train volunteers, and educate members of the disability community about the organization. After the first fishing outing last month, Mr. Gordon says he ?teared up as [he thought of the happiness on the participants? faces after they fished for the first time in years.? Mr. Gordon is proud that the organization gives people living with disabilities a chance to prove what they can do in the outdoors. He sees the power wheelchair as a way to provide that experience to physically disabled individuals who have trouble getting around.

The SCOOTER Store is happy to help Mr. Gordon accomplish that mission.

?We are honored to partner with No Boundaries Outdoors, whose primary goal is to help those with mobility limitations enjoy the sanctuary of the great outdoors,? said Doug Harrison (http://www.thescooterstore.com/aboutus/bios/dougharrison.aspx), CEO and Founder of The SCOOTER Store. ?Our goal with the Gift of Mobility program is, first and foremost, to improve the quality of life for people living with disabilities. We hope that we are achieving that goal.?

Mr. Harrison and his wife, Susanna, started the Gift of Mobility program in December 2002 to help disabled people improve their quality of life by regaining independence and mobility. Since then, the outreach program has worked with organizations to donate over $200,000 a year in mobility equipment, such as power wheelchairs, scooters (http://www.thescooterstore.com/products/) and manual wheelchairs to community service organizations, enabling them to provide freedom and independence to individuals with limited mobility such as the disabled and seniors (http://www.thescooterstore.com/caregiversandfamily/).
